Plans go in for approval - Mid June 2009

During the last few month the site has been surveyed and an outline design drawn up by M.D.Hughes and Partners, who are base in Stonehouse. A planning application was submitted in mid June to Stroud District Council for approval. At the same time discussions have taken place with several contractors who are interested in tendering to carryout the design work and construction. Below are extracts from the drawings that are currently being condisered.

Is there Oil??

Test bores are now being carried out to establish the ground conditions in the area of the new bridge and its canal approaches. This is fairly standard exploration work that needs to be carried out before a detailed design and costing of the work can take place. These tests have shown, at first look, that a fairly solid layer of undisturbed material starts at approximately the level of the new canal bed. Futher tests offsite will be caried out to show the strength of the material and its water sealing ability.

Site preparation work begins - Winter 2008/09

Clearance work has been taking place at the site of Upper Mills bridge over the winter months prior to the spring nesting session.
Plans are now being drawn up and negotiations with the landowners are underway to replace the former swing bridge, which has been fixed for some years, with a new high level bridge.
It is hoped that work can be carried out to build the new bridge later this year.
