Volunteering - how can YOU help?

Our Aims

As part of the forthcoming restoration of the Cotswold canals, a wide range of volunteer opportunities and projects are being created to encourage and enable people to help out and get involved. Indeed it is one of the principal aims of the Cotswold Canals Partnership to:

“encourage greater and more varied community involvement in the restoration, maintenance and use of the canals.”

We aim to achieve this by drawing on and protecting the strengths of existing community involvement in the canals, whilst creating enjoyable opportunities for participation by those not already involved. This will be for the benefit of both the canals and local people.

Opportunities for All

Our canal based volunteering opportunities will be open to all and designed to cater to and reflect people’s differing reasons for becoming involved, as well as their differing abilities, skills and time they can offer.

Volunteer vegetation clearance
Volunteer vegetation clearance

We are encouraging community involvement for forthcoming volunteer activities. These include: vegetation clearance, archaeological works , towpath surfacing and hazel coppicing / hurdle making for bank protection. To register an interest in helping out then please contact us.

Opportunities will be diverse and range from physical environmental tasks such as tree planting, towpath surfacing and vegetation management right through to archaeology, photography and events planning. There is also the potential for volunteers to get involved in our education and interpretation projects.

We will also be providing a series of Corporate Volunteer opportunities to encourage local employers and their employees to "escape the office" and take part in stress busting and team building canal based activities.
